Case Study: Inviting Mudroom Project

Part One: Initial Consultation

Sheri DiMauro and her daughter dreamed of a functional and neat entrance to their multigenerational household. Their outdated mudroom was all cramped up and couldn’t keep up with their active entryway when grandchildren came by to visit. Its structural flaws made it hard to simply drop off coats and focus on giving warm hugs when greeting loved ones instead.

They turned to RenoVista to transform their mudroom into a welcoming entryway to their warm home. One that was in line with their family’s needs and felt truly theirs. After talking on the phone, we learned about their goals and started mapping out solutions. We came over to see the space, set the scope of the project, and get ready for the intervention.

Cramped space

The lack of space made it hard to take off coats and shoes when entering.

Improper framing

To set up the new space, a full demolition and wall reframing were in place.

Bad airflow

With improper insulation, the mudroom remained cold during winter.

Lack of natural light

The old layout was dark with little room for light to come in.

Outdated Electrical System

Given the age of the space, the electrical and lighting systems needed to be updated.

Part Two: Design And Construction

After pre-construction Zoom meetings, the in-house Chief Architect put their vision into complete 2D and 3D plan renderings. It was concluded that a full demolition was necessary to give shape to the new and improved mudroom, so we reframed all the walls, floor systems, and headers, changed the footings, updated electrical and lighting and properly insulated the place.

The new space was requested to have more natural light, smooth plaster walls, stylish trim, and a flooring that could handle daily traffic of the kids and grandkids without showing signs of wear. They felt informed, understood, and confident that our team would deliver the dream result they were looking for.
